When I was in high school, my friends affectionately named me “Charlie”. It was during those formative years that I flew to Japan on a study tour and visited a Canon camera factory. The factory tour ended at a gift shop where I purchased my very first camera that I used to journal my vacation.
Over the years, I explored different genres of photography, but it was only when I started photographing flowers that my focus shifted to composing botanical portraits.
Next, I discovered birds. With their brilliant colors, intricate feather details and interesting behaviors, they are wonderful subjects, albeit challenging to photograph.
Today, more of my focus is on native Hawaiian birds and plants. The story of how predecessors to endemic species survived a long journey to the Hawaiian islands, located thousands of miles from other land masses, and evolved in isolation over millions of years into species found no where else on earth, is quite fascinating.
After deciding to leave the corporate world, I enrolled in a photography program in Northern California which laid a foundation for my work today. My photos have been accepted in a number of juried exhibitions and purchased by private collectors.
Through my photography, I strive to convey the beauty and unique qualities of my subjects. Thanks for visiting my website and for your interest in my work.
